GL Accounting Supervisor

Department: Finance Reports to: Financial Controller Role Purpose This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and fixed assets records, ensuring accurate monthly and annual financial reporting, supporting audits, and acting as a key finance partner to plant and operational teams. The position plays a hands-on role in approvals, closing activities, balance sheet governance, budgeting, inventory control, and capex accounting. Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Month-End Closing • Manage month-end closing activities, including accruals, journal entries, adjustments, and reconciliations. • Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and within defined timelines. • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations. • Analyze monthly cash flow movements and support financial reporting activities. • Review balance sheet accounts and identify risks, unusual movements, and outstanding items. Financial Approvals & Controls • Review and approve purchase orders and contracts in accordance with delegated authority and company policies. • Review and approve supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and appropriate accounting treatment. • Perform petty cash counts and resolve variances. Balance Sheet & Reconciliations • Prepare balance sheet schedules and supporting workings. • Perform bank reconciliations and resolve outstanding reconciling items. • Manage intercompany reconciliations. • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to resolve items impacting financial results. Fixed Assets & Capital Expenditure • Record depreciation and capitalization of fixed assets. • Maintain accurate fixed asset registers and capital expenditure records. • Monitor and track capital expenditure. • Prepare detailed fixed asset reports and depreciation projections. • Support budget preparation related to fixed assets and capital expenditure. Inventory & Plant Finance • Support inventory movement and control activities. • Conduct physical inventory counts at designated cut-off dates. • Process inventory write-offs and supplier claims. • Record pallet receiving transactions in the manufacturing system. • Provide financial data, analysis, and reporting support to plant and operational teams. Audit & Compliance • Support internal and external audit activities. • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. • Respond to audit queries and follow up on outstanding audit observations. • Ensure compliance with company policies and internal financial controls. Budgeting & Business Planning • Support annual business planning and budgeting activities. • Prepare depreciation projections. • Support cash flow forecasting. • Assist with budgeted balance sheet preparation. Stakeholder Management • Collaborate with plant, supply chain, regional finance, and other cross-functional teams. • Participate in internal finance and operational meetings. • Coordinate with external stakeholders, including auditors. • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis as required. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CPA/CIMA) is preferred. Minimum Experience • 5-10 years of relevant finance/accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or FMCG environment. • Experience in GL, month-end closing, reconciliations, fixed assets, CapEx, inventory, and audit support. • Hands-on experience with ERP systems. Knowledge and Skills • Strong knowledge of General Ledger, Balance Sheet, Fixed Assets, and financial reporting. • Good understanding of inventory, CapEx, plant finance, and internal controls. • Strong Excel, analytical, and problem-solving skills. • High attention to detail and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
