Senior Accountant

JOB PURPOSE To assist the Finance Manager in leading and managing the Finance Department by overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury, financial planning, internal controls, taxation, compliance, ERP systems, and financial analysis. He ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information, supervises finance personnel, supports strategic financial initiatives, and acts on behalf of the Finance Manager when required. MAJOR FUNCTIONS To support the Finance Manager in directing all financial activities of the Company, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury management, compliance, audit coordination, financial analysis, business planning, and the implementation of effective financial controls and procedures to safeguard Company assets and support business objectives. Policies, Processes & Procedures • Assist in developing, reviewing and implementing finance policies, procedures and internal controls. • Ensure departmental policies comply with corporate governance requirements and statutory regulations. • Monitor compliance with approved financial policies across all finance functions. • Recommend improvements to finance processes to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls. • Ensure finance procedures are consistently applied across the organization. • Participate in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for finance activities. Budgeting & Planning • Coordinate the preparation and consolidation of the annual operating budget. • Assist in preparing long-term financial plans and forecasts. • Review departmental budget submissions for completeness and accuracy. • Monitor budget performance and investigate significant variances. • Prepare monthly budget variance reports with recommendations. • Support forecasting of revenues, expenses, cash flow and capital expenditure. • Assist the Finance Manager in preparing strategic financial plans. Business Support & Financial Analysis • Prepare financial analysis to support operational and commercial decisions. • Assist with investment evaluations and business case development. • Support financial modelling for new business opportunities. • Conduct profitability analysis by customer, service, project and business unit. • Analyse operating costs and identify opportunities for cost optimization. • Support pricing reviews and commercial evaluations. Financial Reporting • Supervise monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing activities. • Review journal entries, reconciliations and financial schedules. • Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with IFRS. • Review monthly management accounts. • Prepare management reports for senior management. • Review project profitability reports. • Review departmental profitability reports. • Review customer revenue analysis. • Review inventory reconciliation. • Review fixed asset schedules. • Review depreciation calculations. • Review overtime reports. • Review cost allocation reports. • Perform financial trend and ratio analysis. • Ensure timely submission of financial reports. Audit & Compliance • Coordinate internal and external audits. • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. • Follow up implementation of audit recommendations. • Ensure compliance with Company policies. • Ensure compliance with IFRS requirements. • Coordinate with statutory auditors. • Support actuarial valuation exercises. • Maintain audit documentation. Internal Controls • Monitor the effectiveness of financial controls. • Ensure segregation of duties is maintained. • Review approval workflows. • Identify financial control weaknesses. • Recommend improvements to strengthen governance. • Monitor compliance with delegated authority limits. • Assist in implementing new financial controls. Treasury Management • Supervise daily treasury operations. • Review daily cash position reports. • Monitor bank balances. • Assist in managing working capital. • Review cash flow forecasts. • Ensure timely supplier payments. • Monitor customer collections. • Coordinate banking activities. • Assist in maintaining banking relationships. • Support treasury risk management initiatives. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance • Ensure compliance with tax regulations. • Monitor implementation of e-invoicing requirements. • Coordinate with tax advisors. • Ensure statutory submissions are completed on time. • Assist during tax audits. ERP & Finance Systems • Support ERP implementation projects. • Review finance system configurations. • Participate in user acceptance testing. • Ensure integrity of finance master data. • Develop finance reports and dashboards. • Support automation initiatives. • Train finance staff on finance systems. Day-to-Day Operations • Supervise daily activities of the Finance Department. • Monitor work allocation across finance teams. • Ensure finance deadlines are achieved. • Resolve operational finance issues. • Review work performed by finance personnel. • Coordinate activities between Accounting, Treasury, Billing and Financial Control. • Act on behalf of the Finance Manager during periods of absence. Controlling • Monitor monthly financial performance. • Analyse operational KPIs. • Prepare management dashboards. • Monitor departmental cost performance. • Review revenue trends. • Identify financial risks. • Recommend corrective actions. • Assist in developing financial performance indicators. Safety, Quality & Environment • Ensure compliance with Company HSE policies. • Promote safe working practices. • Ensure finance activities comply with quality standards. • Support environmental compliance initiatives.
