Managing Director Leading Commercial Bank | Baghdad, Iraq Reporting to: Board of Directors The Opportunity A leading commercial bank in Baghdad is seeking an accomplished Managing Director to lead its next phase of growth, institutional development, and operational excellence. This is a senior executive appointment for a banking leader with the strategic judgment, commercial expertise, and integrity to deliver sustainable performance while maintaining strong governance, disciplined risk management, and regulatory compliance. Role Purpose The Managing Director will hold overall executive responsibility for the Bank’s business and operations, translating the Board’s strategic direction into measurable results. The role will focus on strengthening financial performance, expanding the Bank’s market position, building institutional capabilities, and safeguarding the interests of depositors and shareholders. Key Responsibilities • Lead the development and execution of the Bank’s strategy, annual business plans, and budgets in alignment with Board-approved priorities. • Drive sustainable growth across lending, deposits, fee-based services, and customer relationships, supported by prudent credit and pricing decisions. • Oversee financial performance, asset quality, liquidity, capital planning, and operational efficiency. • Promote a strong risk and compliance culture, ensuring effective implementation of policies, controls, and corrective actions. • Maintain constructive relationships with the Central Bank of Iraq, other relevant authorities, financial institutions, and strategic partners. • Provide the Board with timely, accurate reporting on performance, material risks, strategic initiatives, and matters requiring its attention. • Lead digital transformation and service development to improve customer experience, competitiveness, and operational resilience. • Build and develop a high-performing executive team, with clear accountability, effective succession planning, and a commitment to professional standards. • Represent the Bank with credibility and uphold its reputation for integrity, reliability, and sound banking practices. Candidate Profile • A bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline; a relevant postgraduate degree or professional qualification is preferred. • Substantial progressive banking experience, including a proven record in senior executive leadership within a commercial bank. • Demonstrated ability to lead complex banking operations, deliver sustainable financial results, and manage institutional change. • Strong understanding of the Iraqi banking environment, regulatory expectations, corporate governance, and international banking practices. • Comprehensive knowledge of credit, treasury, liquidity management, banking operations, and financial controls. • Experience working effectively with boards, regulators, institutional clients, and external stakeholders. • Sound judgment, personal integrity, and the ability to balance commercial ambition with prudent risk management. • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills, with professional proficiency in Arabic and English.
